Boca Raton Institute
Below is a brief outline for the four-day Advanced Flash Class at the Boca Raton Institute. By the end of this course, you will create a multi-page Flash website that includes a photo gallery, a video gallery, and dynamic textboxes with scrollbars.

Day 1 - Flash Basics

The first session will focus on learning the basics of Flash -

  1. The Flash workspace
  2. The Drawing Tools
  3. Working with Text
  4. Selecting & Manipulating Objects
  5. Color Basics
  6. Working with Symbols
  7. Transforming Objects
  8. The Flash Timeline
  9. Animation Basics

Day 2 - Designing and Laying Out Your Flash Website

The second day's focus will be on designing, creating and laying out your website in Flash. You will create the layout objects and navigation objects in Flash and proceed on to designing your site. Images may be imported from PhotoShop. You will create button symbols and movieclips symbols as you create the look and feel of your site's design.

After your site is laid out, you will begin to animate in the elements of your home page. You will create scrollable textboxes using a Flash scrollbar component. Finally, you will learn your first basic Actionscript and test your Flash movie.

Day 3 - Creating the Navigation System, a Photo Gallery and a Video Gallery

At the end of day three, you will have a fully functional Flash website with a navigation bar, scrolling text boxes, photo gallery, and video gallery. This session's focus will be on Actionscript 3.0.

Day 4 - Dynamic Text in Flash

In this last session, you will learn how to load text from an external text file into your Flash website. Why is this important? Imagine being able to quickly and easily update the content of your website without ever having to open the FLA file again. You can with the use of a TextEdit (Macintosh) or Note Pad (Windows) file saved as a TXT document. You will also learn how to place captions on your photos and videos using an Actionscript array.

Finally, you will learn how to create a multi-page Movieclip symbol to create a more complex and detailed webpage without having to have a text box with long scroll bar. With this technique, you can divide your content from one section into multiple "pages" and click through the content using a button and Actionscript.
